My biggest video yet and now for my super important announcement:
I'm finally retiring from Anime Music Videos
Short Reason: I'm finally retiring from amvs to focus full time on my webshow, Battle Geek Plus, and many more video/film related projects.
( Of course, here's the LONG explanationCollapse )
After 13 years of amv editing and 81 videos (if you count my remakes and MEP segments, it's probably around 150+) it's finally time for me to close up shop and to start making a living off my art. I know my presence in amv contests will be missed, but this is definitely *NOT* a goodbye as I'll still be active in the community as a spectator, but no longer making videos. I still love amvs and still want to remain part of the community and I'll never forget where my roots come from.
I'm grateful for all the awesome times, and now I leave things to you guys and the next generation of editors. I hope you all enjoyed watching my videos as much as I had making them. :)
With all that said, Goku and I have finally won the Super Bowl!
My amv career begins and ends with Goku. Thanks for the awesome 13 years.

|3GKai - Castor Box - The Classic Videos REBORN!
||[Jul. 4th, 2011|04:55 pm]
|||||Megumi Hayashibara - Reflection Last Summer Mix||]|
Starting from last summer, I remastered ALL of my classic 1999-2001 DBZ videos using the Dragon Box footage. This was hands down the BIGGEST request I've gotten for the past decade and thanks to obtaining all the Dragon Box footage, I was finally able to do it.
I've remastered the original 45 videos I released on my old 3G site and finally completed the 5 unreleased and unfinished videos, making it a total of 50 videos. :o!
This was everything I made pre-Dragon Bebop Z before I really got involved with the AMV community. I used to be really ashamed of all these videos until a few years back, but without these, I wouldn't be here today and these videos have always served as the foundation of everything I've done.

Through it's massive ups and downs, AX has always been a yearly tradition for me (except in 2009) and this year in particular will be special for the following reasons:
- Finally got back into the AMV Contest after 5 years (with 2 older VG Project videos, but they've never been in any competitions other than the VG Project showings, so it's still fair game :P)
- I'll be the main AMV
Iron Chef competitor this year and I get to choose one of the judges to compete against. I haven't watched any of the sources, but I'm confident enough to improvise everything
- I'll be unveiling a SUPER MEGA AWESOME surprise after the AMV Chef is over. You really don't wanna miss it!
Note: I hate carrying stuff, so all I'm gonna have on me is my Nintendo 3DS and a printed out schedule in my pocket.
This is mostly for radical_yue, kisanzi, and niotex, so here's my tentative AX2011 schedule:
Thursday, June 30
Afternoon: Pick up Matt and Yue from LAX. Get settled in hotel.
Evening: Pick up Yue's brother.
7:00 PM - AMV Creator Dinner at Little Tokyo: I hope everyone gets along and plays nice. :D
Anytime after that: booze
Friday, July 1
10:30AM - 11:30AM: Toshio Furukawa Panel: The Japanese voice of PICCOLO!!! It was AWESOME meeting Ryo Horikawa at AX2005 and I missed Yamcha's seiyuu at AX2006 due to the long lines. I don't think I'll be getting any autographs since I don't wanna carry stuff like I mentioned above, plus I'm not 100% sure I'll be getting up early, but I'll try to make it!
4:30PM - 6:00PM: AMV 101
Sony Vegas Workshop: Mostly to pick up our amv WRISTBANDS (not tickets) for the contest. Sadly, after last year, I can't say Brad DeMoss will be Brad DeMoss and Nic will be Nic anymore, so I hope Yue comes on board to help with the panel.
6:45PM - 7:45PM: FUNimation Industry Panel: I only want to hear the announcement about a certain box that has movies in it. Possibly pertaining to Dragons.
9:00PM - 12:00AM: AMV Contest: Castor RETURNS TO THE BATTLEFIELD!!!
12:00AM - whenever: booze
Saturday, July 2
Before 3PM: booze. Most likely provided by Matt.
3:00PM - 7:00PM: AMV
Iron Chef: This year, I was chosen as the main competitor and I have very good reasons to battle each of the judges (Rider, Matt, Nighthawk, and Wired Knight), but who will I choose? :o I will also unveil my AWESOME SURPRISE after the actual editing part is over. Don't miss it!
9:15PM - 10:15PM: Mega64 Panel: I'm so happy that it won't coincide with the AMV Chef this time and I'm really looking forward to going!
10:00PM - 12:00AM: Nic's AMV Showing/Exposition: After God knows how long, AX has finally gotten a damn timeslot for a normal AMV showcase. I'm most likely going to miss the start because of the Mega64 panel, but I should make it for the end.
Sunday, July 3
4:30PM - 7:30PM: AMV Contest Reshow and Awards: I'm broke and need money.
(Maybe) 10:30PM - 11:30PM: Cosplay Comedian Joe's AMV Hour: I have no idea who he is or have seen his videos and his amv.org profile is here. It's kind late, so I'm not 100% sure I'll go.
Monday, July 4
Take everyone to the airport and go home.
Unlike past years, it looks like I have plenty to do with more than enough time for the dealers room as well.
I'm also gonna post another big AMV related announcement on July 4th most likely before I leave AX, so don't miss it!
|Red State - "Simple got shit on"
||[Apr. 10th, 2011|01:07 pm]
Last night, I went out to see Kevin Smith's Red State at the Wiltern Theater in LA. Since Kevin Smith is my favorite director and my main influence for becoming a filmmaker, I knew I had to see it.
The movie's pretty damned good and makes up for Cop Out and Zack & Miri. Very, very disturbing, unsettling, and it's so incredibly different than anything else Kevin Smith, or any filmmaker in the industry has ever done. Just when you think the plot is going to go one way, it goes another, and another, and another. The entire movie is literally breaking every normal film cliche in all aspects. During the Q&A afterwards, a film student congratulated Smith on breaking every rule film schools drill into their student's heads. :D
Of course, it's *not* perfect. My only gripes with the film are 2 super lengthy dialogue parts (which are a Kevin Smith staple) which kind of break up the tension and flow of the movie. Other than those, Michael Parks is literally Emperor Palpatine in terms of an awesome performance and John Goodman also steals the show with some nice and witty one liners. I don't want to spoil anything else, but definitely go out and see it when it comes out in theaters this Oct (I might see it again) or when the 2nd tour starts this summer. You pay a lot if you see it on the tour before Oct (My ticket was $75, but worth every penny), but you get to see the movie and get treated to an awesome Q&A afterwards. It's so different than anything you ever expect in a movie and it's one crazy thrill ride from beginning to end. :)
